Summer arrives with a quieter pace: no school, no homework, no packed schedules. Many families let these weeks pass without making the most of them. But this summer can be the season your child truly begins their journey with the Quran.
The Prophet ο·Ί warned us about neglecting a great gift. Ibn Abbas Ψ±ΨΆΩ Ψ§ΩΩΩ ΨΉΩΩΩ Ψ§ reported that the Messenger of Allah ο·Ί said:
"There are two blessings which many people waste: health and free time."
Summer provides "free time" in abundance β and if directed well, it can change your child's relationship with the Quran for the rest of their life.
The Prophet ο·Ί said:
"The feet of a servant will not move on the Day of Resurrection until he is asked about his life β how he spent it..."
Every hour that passes will be accounted for. And summer, with all its open hours, is among the times we should be most careful to answer well for.
In summer, the weight of homework and exams lifts, and children are in a better mental and emotional state β an ideal environment for learning Quran, which requires focus and repetition.
It becomes simple to set a consistent daily Quran time (after Fajr, before lunch, or after Asr). Once that habit is established over two or three months, maintaining it during the school year becomes much easier.
Research shows that children retain information better when they are relaxed and at ease β and the summer atmosphere often provides exactly that.
Summer gives families extra time together. A parent sitting with their child during a Quran session sends a clear message: "This matters. This is loved."
Even 15 minutes daily (after Fajr) + 10 minutes of evening review is enough. The first goal is consistency, not memorization.
A qualified, caring teacher who knows how to connect with children makes Quran enjoyable and accessible β not a burden.
Every surah memorized, every letter mastered, every session completed β acknowledge it. Recognition builds a lasting love for the Quran.
The weeks ahead are a gift. Their value depends entirely on what we do with them. Free time is a blessing β and blessings carry responsibility. Let the Quran be the thread that runs through your family's days: morning recitations, evening reviews, and the quiet satisfaction of a child growing closer to Allah's words each day.
It does not have to be perfect. It just has to begin.
"The feet of a servant will not move on the Day of Resurrection until he is asked about his life β how he spent it..."
May Allah make this summer a season of Quran, growth, and barakah for our families. Ameen. π
